The Student Council & the NTAA will be running two exciting events:

•  The first initiative is a Red & White Day in honour of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and W.O. Patrice Vincent.  You will see that this initiative has been picked up in many schools across the province as a way to honour these fallen soldiers and as a show of support for our country.
• The second is our annual Nets for Vets Charity floor hockey game which runs at lunch on November 10th.  This year we hope to raise funds for both the Veterans Wing of Sunnybrook Hospital and the Charities associated with Cpl. Cirillo and W.O. Vincent.

 Please support and promote these events! Wear red & white and attend the game….Tickets are only $1.

The school is closed on Nov 13 for hydro repairs. Staff will be located at Northern Secondary.

Our evening will start with an open fair – all 35 universities and colleges will have booths and be available for conversation and questions.

Following the open fair, there will be three panel presentations. You may attend three different sessions giving you the opportunity to see nine schools speak and present in this format.

It should be a wonderfully informative evening. Please plan to attend; there is no cost for this event.

Starting this week (Monday Oct. 19th – Friday the 23rd) Art Council is running a voting booth at lunch outside the main office to choose this year’s winning-mural design.  All staff & students are invited to cast their ballots for their choice of designs. The mural will be located on the third floor just outside staircase KK on the large green wall. The theme this year is ‘Explore’, with a focus on the subjects that are taught on that floor: Geography, History, Languages, and Social Studies. We encourage all staff and students (especially stakeholders who work and learn on the third floor) to cast their ballot this week.

* Please write your name, grade, and homeform on the back of your submission.

• You can use your own paper, or the given templates (as long as it fits the dimensions)
• Submissions should be in full colour

Design Elements:

• The design should be centered around the word “explore”
• Must contain the word “explore”
• Letters should be in the style of graffiti
• Dimensions: 4ft by 16ft, or 1:4 ratio
• Suggested: Variety of colours (rainbow)

 Dear Parents/Guardians,

 We wanted to provide you with an update about job action being taken by theCanadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents school support staff.

 Currently, the union is in ongoing labour negotiations with the Government of Ontario and public school boards. As a result,members of CUPE are taking part in a legal job action that will impact our schools.

 It’s important to note that schools remain open and instructional programs continue to run. During these extraordinary times inour schools, principals and vice–principals are working together with staff to maintain a caring and positive school environment.As always, student safety and learning remain the top priorities of all TDSB staff, and superintendents are in daily contact with our schools to assess any concerns.

 Today, CUPE (e.g. custodians, school office staff,educational assistants) has started a partial withdrawal of services which includes:

• Not sweeping entrances and hallways
• Not doing school compost programs
• Not cutting grass or cleaning up leaves unless there is a safety concern
• Not collecting or accepting money for school–related initiatives and fundraising

 As the withdrawal of services continues, it MAY have a more significant impact on school activities and permits.

 As you can imagine, principals and vice–principals have had to take on additional tasks as a result of the ongoing job action and we appreciate your patience. During this time, there may be some delays when trying to contact your school office. While we appreciate offers of assistance from parents, volunteers cannot fulfill the duties of staff during a legal job action.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

At North Toronto, we are participating in the tdsbCARES: Refugee Crisis Appeal to support the Canadian Red Cross as they provide assistance to the hundreds of thousands of people who are fleeing war and hunger in countries like Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq. 

We will be collecting donations of cash or cheques, which will be forwarded through the TDSB to the Canadian Red Cross. The charity will issue tax receipts for all online donations as well donations via cheque (minimum value of $20). The TDSB fundraising appeal will run until December 11th. The federal government has announced that they will match all eligible donations made by that date (up to $100 million) and set aside each dollar in its own Syria Emergency Relief Fund.

Timetable Changes 2015-2016

Wednesday, September 2nd

• For all requests:  You must have signed permission from a parent/guardian indicating the course(s) you wish to add and/or drop.
• 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Students entering Grades 10, 11, and 12 requiring timetable changes as a result of summer school
  • Non-TDSB Public or Separate School Board Courses (eg. TCDSB, YRDSB…) – please bring the original report card with you.
  • Private School Courses – you must have your report card sent directly to us by mail or courier. We are unable to add this course to your record and drop the corresponding one until we have received this.
  • TDSB Courses – courses taken with our school board appear automatically on your transcript; no report card is required.
• 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Students entering Grades 10, 11, and 12 with any other timetable change requests

Timetable Change Period: Tuesday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m. until Thursday, September 17th

• Students may request timetable changes during this period through the Guidance Office. These requests will be processed based on the following priority sequence:
  • admission pre-requisite required for post-secondary plans,
  • change in level (between Applied, Academic, and Enriched),
  • summer school credit completed,
  • new registrations,
  • straight drops (Grade 11 and 12 students may drop courses without penalty up until the Full Disclosure deadline in April),
  • and electives.
  • All changes are subject to availability.
• Process for Requesting Timetable Changes
  • Beginning September 8th, students will be able to make ONE request for an appointment to change their timetable. In the event that a course is full, students will be given the option to have a space on the waiting list. Should a space become available in the requested course, the student will then automatically be placed and an email will be sent indicating that their new timetable is available for pick up.
  • Students who wish only to drop a course can come to the Guidance Office Tuesday, September 8th between 2:00 and 3:15 p.m.
