{"id":324,"date":"2016-06-13T11:35:50","date_gmt":"2016-06-13T15:35:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ntci.on.ca\/foundation\/?p=324"},"modified":"2016-09-27T23:31:31","modified_gmt":"2016-09-28T03:31:31","slug":"dragons-den-putting-your-donations-to-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ntci.on.ca\/foundation\/dragons-den-putting-your-donations-to-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Dragons\u2019 Den: Putting Your Donations to Work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last November, the Foundation invited students seeking\u00a0funding for their various clubs and endeavours into the socalled\u00a0Dragons\u2019 Den. The evening of presentations, planned\u00a0and executed both intelligently and professionally, made one\u00a0thing very clear: the kids are alright! Once again, NTCI students\u00a0proved that they are reaching for the stars as academics,\u00a0athletes and musicians.<\/p>\n<p>The groups applying for grants gave some background on\u00a0their respective clubs, and explained what they hoped to do\u00a0with the grant money and why they felt they deserved funding.:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Robotics Club needed funds to purchase the materials for\u00a0creating, constructing, programming and testing a robot. Most\u00a0of us on the Foundation have a less than perfect grasp of the\u00a0field of robotics, but we all agreed to partial funding. (Not surprisingly,\u00a0the club did well at the VEX Robotics Competition.)<\/li>\n<li>Graffiti, the newspaper we all remember fondly, has now\u00a0expanded its scope to include a digital version and made two\u00a0separate presentations. One came from Digital Graffiti, asking\u00a0for money towards various technological resources, including\u00a0camcorders and software, to help launch this new digital edition\u00a0of the newspaper. Print Graffiti asked for help with its printing\u00a0costs\u2014difficult for a free school newspaper to fund on its own.<\/li>\n<li>The Symphony Orchestra and Choral Ensemble asked for help\u00a0in funding an enriched workshop, available to all music students,\u00a0towards the goal of performing Mozart\u2019s Requiem at this year\u2019s\u00a0Maytime Melodies. (It was the 70th edition and a landmark\u00a0achievement, which you can see and hear at \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL2nR66Y54e5Wzm-9z1mEJl6hJyYIGS12w\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL2nR66Y54e5Wzm-9z1mEJl6hJyYIGS12w<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So what did the Dragons\u2019 Den actually agree to? Because of<br \/>\nthe generosity of your donations, the Foundation was able to<br \/>\ngive Digital Graffiti $450.00 and print Graffiti $900.00. The<br \/>\nOrchestra and Chorus received $1,000.00, and the Robotics<br \/>\nClub $200.00.
