Trends In Careers That Require Computer Skills
The Computer
Before the last 120 years, most inventions and devices meant to make life easier were big, bulky and mechanical, but then the computer was invented. The computer can help with almost anything and connect everyone all around the world. Without it, we would have never went into space and done very long and hard calculations.:
The history of the computer
The first generation of computers:
. The first computer was invented by John V. Atanasoff and Clifford Berry. It was called the Atanasoff-Berry Computer but was later renamed to the Colossus and was built and used by and for the military. Computers of this generation could only perform single task, and they had no operating system.
The second generation of computers:
. In 1951 the first computer for commercial use was put on the marker. It was called the Universal Automatic Computer. In 1953 the International Business Machine (IBM) 650 and 700 series computers revolutionized the computer industry. During this generation of computers over 100 different computer languages were made, computers had (Random access) memory and operating systems. Storage devices such as tape and disk were also in use.
The third generation of computers:
. The invention of integrated circuit brought about the third generation of computers. With this generation, computers became much more compact, more powerful, and were able to run many different programs at the same time using the new operating systems and much larger storage and RAM (Random Access Memory). In 1980 the Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-Dos) was created and in 1981 IBM introduced the personal computer (PC) For entertainment and productivity. Then, in 1984, Apple gave us the Macintosh computer. with its revolutionary graphic user interface and the 1990's Microsoft's Windows operating system was created.
Trends in careers that require computer skills
Computers can do repetitive and tedious tasks quicker and with far fewer mistakes, Do they were mostly used for automation. They can also detect different signals and Waves, allowing them to connect over very large distances and allow communication between two different locations almost instantaneously. They are able to be programmed with many games and other forms of entertainment which lead to them to be also used at home for entertainment purposes. They also have productivity capabilities such as Allowing us to type things out or edit photos and such, Making them very useful for the workplace and even for working at home. Their data and number crunching abilities are no doubt very useful to society, productivity and research. But it hasn't been so great for everyone.
It is estimated that by 2030, as many as 800 million jobs will be lost due to automation. Although most of these jobs tend to be jobs such as Delivery and freight services, Jobs in the accounting field, Manual labour, and customer services.
This leaves us with Jobs that need computer programming skills, Once Jobs that a computer can do we will need people that can actually use and make and program those computers. This leads employers to hire people with Computer skills such as being able to use office tools like Microsoft office for spreadsheets and word processing or being able to program to make a website or a new operating system or even an application since many stores and businesses have moved away from the old brick and mortar (like amazon). Employers may not even need you to come to work as most office work can be done from home because of new wireless technology allowing us to send files and data over the Internet.
All in all, computers have made a very large contribution to society and have allowed for humanity to progress further and do complicated tasks thought to be impossible previously.
