Adaptive Technologies

By Kamil Mamdani

'Adaptive Technology' is a term used to describe assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices or services that help provide equality between visually impaired individuals and their sighted peers within the emerging information society. With the assistance of a variety of technological devices, people with visual impairments can independently "access, process, store and transmit the same information" [1] as sighted people. The only difference is how the information is displayed. The majority of employment education, and day to day living activities require access to electronic information, and different types of technology can assist individuals who are blind or visually impaired to be able to actively participate in their society.
