Adaptive technologies that help to improve computer accessibility
Adaptive technologies are technologies that make using the computer easier. Some of these technologies include text-to-speech, ergonomic keyboard, adapted mouse, speech-to-text, image magnifier, sticky keys. This website focuses on four of these technologies:
Text-to-speech
Text-to-speech is an adaptive technology that converts text to speech. It basically reads the text out loud. it ca be very useful. here are the examples of the types of eople it can help. it can help people:
- People with learning disabilities - people who have disablities such as dyslexia have difficult reading large amounts of text.
- People who have literacy difficulties - Some people get frustrated while trying to browse the internet because it is in text form. By offering them an option to hear the text instead of reading it, they can get valuable information in a way that is more comfortable for them. By offering them an option to hear the text instead of reading it, they can get valuable information in a way that is more comfortable for them.
- People who speak the language but not read it
- People with different learning styles - Differnt people have different learning styles. Some people are auditory learners, some are visual learners and some are kinesthetic learners. Text-to-speech aims to help number of learners and help them comprehend and retain information.

Ergonomic Keyboard
Ergonomic keyboards are designed to help relieve stress from your wrists and hands. It is a computer keyboard designed with ergonomic considerations to minimize muscle strain and a host of related problems. Typically such keyboards for two-handed typists are constructed in a V shape, to allow right and left hands to type at a slight angle more natural to the human form. there are different types of keyboards such as split keyboard, contoured keyboard, handheld keyboard, angle split keyboard, etc. (2)
Virtual keyboard
You can use an visual keyboard to "change size, color and transparency of keyboard with one click. In full-screen mode virtual keyboard automatically resizes to fit the width of the screen when invoked. This means it works in both landscape and portrait orientation, something other keyboard does not do."
Image Magnifier
Image magnifier is like a magnifying glass for computers. You just put it over the word or image and it magnifies it.
