Teacher Evasion

By Adam White and Weilun Chang
Please read How To Play before playing.

Teacher Evasion is based on the 19th century French board game known as The Military Game.  It was very popular among French officers during the time of the Franco-Prussian war, and this computerized version hopes to catch a modern crowd.

Game Rules
On each turn, a single teacher moves to a directly connected empty circle, followed by the student's similar move. The teachers may only move vertically or forward (to the right), not backward. The student may move in any direction.
There are no captures. The teachers win by trapping the student so that he is unable to move. The student can win two ways. He can escape, which he does by moving past (to the left of) all three teachers. Also, if the teachers move 10 times in a row without advancing (i.e. they only move up and down) then the teachers are stalling and the student wins.

Gameplay
To move a teacher, first use the mouse to select the teacher you would like to move. The teacher selected will turn to become a portrait (rather than profile).  Then select the square to move into. Selecting the same teacher twice will de-select it. If you are playing as the student, you need only select the desired square.

Options
Difficulty can be adjusted by using the menu labeled "Difficulty".
The menu marked "Player 1" allows the changing of who/what the user is.  Whatever Player 1 is set to, Player 2 (or the computer) is set to the other.  This can be changed mid-game.
Single player (against the computer), or two player mode can be chosen using the "Human vs." radio buttons.  A new game will start, and scores will reset.

Displays
In the top right of the applet, a text box displays messages regarding who has won, and that teachers move first.
The score is displayed in the lower right part of the applet.  "Player 2" reffers to either the computer opponent or a second human opponent.

Known Problem
This applet does not load properly in Microsoft Internet Explorer.
