ntci pentagon
As we trace back the history of a yearbook in North Toronto’s past, we come to understand that this yearly publication is more than a book, but a historical document, one which records a year of memories, of students, of life. As students go back through their high school yearbooks, they are able to reflect on memories, on years of their life, which is why it is so cherished by students and teachers that are enrolled in or have graduated from NTCI.
Meanwhile, for some students, Pentagon, is more than a yearbook, but is a course, AWT4M1, filled with up to fifteen students who learn the ins and outs of of graphic design, flash, and the production of a book with strict deadlines. Students learn to work together, as well as on their own, to produce a successful publication - in many ways Pentagon is a business using print, photography, video, web, the written word to produce a historical document.
Through basic lessons of form and layout to complicated software along the lines of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign, students learn the process of production and lifeskill for the future. The students also learn how to use film and video equipment, improve their time management skills, improve crucial communication and teamwork skills and more. The yearbook course is more than just a course, it is a program that prepares one for future employment, university, and the importance of documenting history.
