NT’s David Kleinman has won the University of Toronto National Biology Competition for the second year in a row! North Toronto has won this prestigious competition for four years in a row! In 2008 it was won by David’s big brother Robert and in 2007 by Boken Lin. (The 2010 16th annual competition was written by 4,702 eligible contestants at 319 schools on April 29th: 304 schools from across Canada, and schools in Brunei Darussalam, China, Germany, Singapore, Slovakia, and the United States.)

Congratulations to our Classics students for their contributions to the Ontario Students Classics Conference. Once again, NT students had great results:
o ranked fourth overall
o Vicki Peter awarded trophies in Senior Pentathlon, Senior Latin Sight Translation & Academic categories.
o Maya Chakravorty awarded trophy in Senior Latin Oral Reading.
o Maya Chakravorty, Vicki Peter, Filip Todorovic, Joseph Yang, Liam Morantz & Toby Keymer awarded trophies in Gordon Brooks Latin Oral Reading.

Congratulations to Laura Hesse-Moroney and Zack Kasman who achieved the ZDP-A2 level in German. (This is a German language proficiency exam set by Germany to conform to the Common European Frame of Reference and recognized around the world). On Saturday April 24 they passed listening, reading, writing and speaking tests to earn this certificate. Good luck next year with the B1 level tests!

The Michael Smith Science Challenge: Oleh Zhyhinas finished in the top 1% (and 3rd in Ontario) with Zi Ning Yin and Jason Luo in the top 10%. The contest is a national competition, named in honour of UBC's Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Michael Smith, written by students in Grade 10 Science and emphasizes logical thinking covering material in the science curriculum common to all provinces.

Ontario High School German Contest: Congratulations to Laura Hesse-Moroney, a 2nd-year German student, who placed 11th at the 2010 Ontario High School German Contest held at NT on Sat. April 10th.

Congratulations to Joseph Yang, winner of a gold medal (summa cum laude) at the 2010 National Latin Exam.

Our senior Reach for the Top team won the regional championship. They have been invited to participate in the Ontario Provincial Championships being held in Toronto on May 15 – 17.

Congratulations to our students participating in the recent math contests. We did extremely well in all areas but particularly the Pascal Contest (grade 9) - Canadian Mathematics Competition - U of Waterloo. NT was #3 in province but #1 in TDSB! David Ou, David Xu and Tommy Fan were the top three scorers. Well done!
