Beginner German is a first year course that starts with the very basics. The first few months of the course focus on listening and speaking skills, but reading and writing skills soon develop as well as we talk about ourselves, our families, our friends, our hobbies, our school day, our likes and dislikes, clothing, our chores at home. Projects include a film study and, at the end of the year, a fairy tale performance. We listen to music from classical to the Beatles (they recorded in German) and from opera to Rammstein.
Field trips in 2009-2010 include Oktoberfest in Kitchener/Waterloo on October 15th; a two-week exchange program in March 2010 to Ludwigshafen, Germany as we continue our partnership with the Carl-Bosch-Gymnasium; the Ontario High School German Contest in April 2010; the Sprockets film festival in April 2010; the Richard Wagner opera Der Fliegende Hollaender in May 2010; the Film Club - international films with a focus on German cinema.
