Introduction

The access to information we have in our daily lives has many positive and negative effects on us. I will break it down into different categories to explore more deeply what the different types of electronic information there are and their effects. Before i dive into the Pros and Cons of accessing electronic information, I'll give some examples of electronic information. The most well know way of accessing information electronically is social media which is the topic ill mainly focus on, there are other ways of accessing information such as webcasts, wikis, blogs and even video sharing sites. Social media is the most common and well known method of accessing information because of its growth of users. One of the major social media platform Facebook recorded 2.4 billion users(1). Another social media service is Youtube. Youtube has recorded 1.9 billion logged-in users visited Youtube per month.(2)

Pros

Access to electronic information can create multiple benifits in our everyday lives. You are able to instantly communicate to anyone, anywhere and anytime. With electronical information we can access the news, entertainment and games at the snap of a finger. You can find everything you could ever have imagined in detail on the internet. There are millions of web sites dedicated to all sorts of topics. Such insight helps people understand things they may never even have learned. Access to knowledge online makes everything we do more effective, more eclectic. There are over 2.5 million articles posted everyday (3). Thenumber of articles that are posted everyday will lead to everyone having something to read, either for entertainment or for research.

Cons

Everything you search for or put on the Internet is entirely traceable to the person to whom it belongs. Computer viruses are very common, and increasingly aggressive. For people struggling to fit in with their peers, particularly adolescents and young adults, the pressure on social media to do certain things or act a certain way may be even worse than it is at school. Occasionally, This can result in stress, anxiety and even depression. People get distracted by all the social apps and news and messages they receive, leading to all kinds of issues such as distracted driving or the lack of gaining full attention during a conversation with someone. It also raises the issue of plagiarism because of how easy it is to access information online, in any subject. Now, somebody could easily send the answers for the math homework, or search up and instantly find essays about your subject that other people did.
