Next Parent Council Meeting – Wednesday, April 9th

In addition to hearing reports and updates from parent, student and staff reps we will host the following guest speaker presentation:

SLEEPY NOT LAZY!  TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT ADOLESCENTS’ SLEEP AND HEALTH
Robyn Stremler, RN, PhD, Assistant Professor, Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto

Adolescents are often in limbo in the health care system, beginning to develop maturity and independence, yet often treated too much as children or adults.  In particular, the sleep patterns of adolescents are unique and, in spite of the importance of sleep during this developmental stage, often overlooked.  Adolescents who complain about waking up early for school or other activities may be perceived as lazy by their parents and teachers, but there is a biological basis for the need to sleep later.
Robyn Stremler, Assistant Professor, University of Toronto, will facilitate discussion of issues related to sleep for adolescents and share research evidence related to healthy sleep habits, barriers to achieving sleep of adequate quantity and quality, consequences of sleep loss and strategies to improve sleep for adolescents.

When?  Wednesday, April  9th,  7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Where? Room 215

This special event is brought to you by the NTCI School (Parent) Council.  Attending these meetings is an excellent way to keep current on NT activities and to share information with other NT parents. We look forward to seeing you!
